Aerobic Bacteria  Bacteria that use free oxygen to decompose organic matter
Anaerobic Bacteria  Bacteria that use no oxygen to decompose matter as it is toxic to them
biological oxygen demand (BOD) A measure of the amount of oxygen consumed during biological  and chemical processes that break down organic matter in water
Natural Purification  The process of a water source to assimilate waste material and restore its own quality
Nonpathogenic  Not causing disease
Potable Fit for human consumption
Respiration Use of oxygen by plants and animals
Turbidity Level of sediment
